i don’t have the time…

I’ve been working so much recently. In the past two weeks I think I’ve had one day off. Sure, I’m making great money, and I couldn’t be more grateful for that; yet I constantly find myself thinking about the time I could be putting into achieving my other goals.

Honestly, I’m still in the process of trying to find balance between work and my personal life. I’m keeping up with my house, but just barely. I haven’t been to the grocery store this week because of my hours, and when I do have a moment to spare I’m trying to catch up with my laundry, play with my cat, or take a nap. Keeping up has been hard but I try to make it work.

While reflecting on how I’ve been using my time, I realized my discontent with working was a push to reevaluate my priorities.

I’ve been focusing on making more money, but in the process I’ve been neglecting fitness, sleep, my nutrition – all things that are super important to me (and my wellbeing). My actions haven’t been reflecting what I value or want for my life.

Don’t get me wrong – to move through the next phase of my life I’m going to need money. Lots of it. Trying to make more money is not a bad thing, but it became a distraction when it left me no time to tend to other important areas of my life.

To remedy this, I’m simply taking some time off. I’m going home to visit family, slowing down and taking some time to rest. During my break I’m going to figure out how to rearrange my schedule to make room for self-care, because thats what matters to me.

That being said, it’s not possible for everyone to cut their hours at work or take more time for themselves because of their circumstances. So what do you do when it’s not possible to take a step back? Well, you do your best with what you have. That’s all we can ever do.

Taking a moment to reevaluate your habits is a good start. Ask yourself:

– What do I value?

– Do my actions and habits align with what I want and value?

If your answer is yes, you’re good to go. Keep doing your thing. If you said no, I challenge you to brainstorm a little further.

– What’s preventing me from taking time for what matters to me? Is it possible to remove this from my life?

If the answer is no, you can’t remove it, then you just need to frame the question differently.

– How can I make space in my life for the things I value?

Big changes aren’t always possible, but even small tweaks to your daily routine can put you closer to where you want to be. If you can’t take the distractions away, try to adding in something new.

Your best will look different than mine, your partner’s, your favorite fitness influencer’s. And that’s ok. Taking even a small step towards your goals and dreams is still taking a step. Don’t get caught up thinking you need to have everything worked out all at once. Enjoy the journey and keep your end goal in the front of your mind. If something is meant for you, it will flow to you. Just make sure you put in the work, doing the best you can with what you got. That’s what really counts.
